Brushing and Flossing With BracesBrushing and flossing regularly is the key to maintaining healthy braces throughout the duration of your treatment. Practicing regular oral hygiene will help avoid plaque buildup, gum inflammation, and tooth decay.

How often should you brush your teeth with braces? After breakfast, lunch, dinner, and right before bedtime. We recommend using an interdental toothbrush that allows cleaning around, underneath, and in between the braces. Prior to brushing, the elastic bands should be removed first. Next, each wire and pin should be cleaned, moving from top to bottom. After that, your teeth should be brushed, cleaning each portion of your mouth for a minimum of 30 seconds. The last step is to thoroughly rinse your mouth and examining your teeth in the mirror.

How often should you floss? We recommend flossing once everyday, using waxed floss or dental tape specific to flossing with braces. A floss length of around 18 inches should be sufficient. Be careful when moving in between the teeth and braces, getting the floss stuck can be painful and result in floss snapping.
