Emergency CareWhat do you do if wires come loose or braces break? What if something like this happens when you’re out of town or the office is closed? Our Bracify team is here to help you be as prepared as possible! Most of these problems can be solved at home, until you are able to come into the office.

It’s important to keep your orthodontic emergency kit with you at all times. This kit consists of: floss, tweezers, non-medicated wax, small clippers, Q-tips, salt, toothpicks, and topical anesthetic. Here are common problems that you might encounter:

  • Lost Ligature- A ligature, or the tiny rubber bands that hold the wire to the brackets, may come off. In this case, you may be able to put the ligature back in place using sterilized tweezers.
  • Protruding Wire- If wire is protruding or poking out, this can be painful and irritating. You can solve this problem by using a Q-tip or pencil eraser to push the wire back flush against your tooth. The non-medicated wax can then be applied to prevent poking until the wire is fixed.
